Diving into an Unusual Steam Game Trial: Controlling a Turdy Character in a Mission to Find the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and enthusiasts have discovered numerous entertaining indie games. However, one catches the eye for its quirky concept. Titled Unko Technica, this classic-feel platformer lets you play a hero that is actually a dung attempting to navigate to a toilet. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."
Player controls is easy to grasp: press a single jump button. Throughout one hundred fifty challenges, encounter boss fights and visit a market to purchase outfits for your poop character.
Execute your jumps carefully, as a mistake forces restarting the level. Jump off air pockets to propel yourself higher, traverse disappearing ledges, and touch triggers to unlock new areas. Earn coins to purchase challenging levels as gameplay gets crazy.
Visually, the demo boasts neon level designs and a killer background music. The retro visual style with moving geometric shapes evokes memories of fans of beloved games like Earthbound.
While it's hard to recall previous releases where you control a dung character, video games frequently incorporated scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, players make grenades from character droppings. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use feces as soil enrichment. Unsurprisingly, this theme is present heavily in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Despite its silly premise, Unko Technica has already received notable recognition, like taking top honors at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. A playable preview is accessible currently on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to debut on Steam on November 19.
